BRAVING THE BUREAUCRACY FOR THE HELPLESS HOMELESS
When you are down and out it is an impossible task to get back up and in, unless you have Dr. Vyaltseva and Light of Crimea Foundation on your side. Mr Dodonov lived without ID on the street for 15 years. Today he is a REAL PERSON living in a warm place, attending church and getting the help he needs. It was a year-long task for our Dr. to get him documented but we know heaven is smiling. ~

SEMICHKOV'S GET A NEW
TRANSMISSION FOR $400!
December 2007 NEWS of CRIMEA from your friend David G. Hallowell
|
Every child is a miracle but on November 22nd at 3 AM Anna Petrovna was born to a Christian lady who scarcely a year ago had taken a chance on a rehabilitated alcoholic. Peter Konovalov has come to be not only a well recovered proud parent and responsible family man, but by God's grace he was adopted into the River of Joy family as the new guardian of the River of Joy campus. For Peter that meant his wife Tatiana's labor was overseen by the grateful Head Doctor of the Belogorsk Hospital maternity Ward, who has received a birthing table, beds and a computer from Light of Crimea~River of Joy Foundations. Dr. Eldar did not go home at 3 PM, when he usually knocks off, but he and Doctor Angela stayed with Tatiana until her baby was born 12 hours later! Anna Petrovna Konovalova weighed in at 2 kilograms, 550 grams and was proclaimed healthy by Light of Crimea Pediatrician Tatiana Vyaltseva not long after her birth. The family is at home at River Road 7 in Ovrashki, the ROJ Campus.

David's Thoughts
on the Season
About this time every year it seems I am
torn between nostalgia and knowledge. It
starts when I remember fondly all the warm
and wonderful family gatherings we have
had at Christmas.
Ah the caroling and apple cider! I remember the pageants
too, the year I kept pushing up the Santa's mask while
reciting the Night Before Christmas to a howling audience
at a schoolhouse in the woods. Oh and the guessing
games! The presents and pies, chuckles, tears and
sighs. Nostalgia is a powerful force in a man my age.
Hah! I just remembered a café named "Nostalgia" near
our office here in Crimea. It has inlaid hammer and sickle
symbols on the tables, and pictures of scowling soviet
rulers all around. It proudly proclaims "almost Soviet"
prices. Nostalgia is just romanticised memory after all.
About ten years ago I spent a year on the Abraham Forum,
often defending the faith but also finding some answers
to questions that had long challenged my own faith. After
learning the timing of Zechariah's visit by Gabriel and
John the Baptist's birth, etc. It became clear that our Lord
Jesus must have been born on or about Rosh Hoshanah
in September, not on December 25th!
The Wise Men came much later and the shepherds were
in the field at night with their flocks like they never would
be on a freezing December night. The December 25th
date has pagan beginnings, as do our trees, the 12 days
of Christmas, the yule log, and our gift giving and revelry.
So when I hear, someone nobly demand that we, "Put
Christ back in Christmas!" I cannot but wonder why we
don't ask for Him to be put back in the Holiday He really
was born in. Could it be nostalgia? How long must we
delay truth for romanticised memories? ~

HELP WANTED Recently we hired two interpreters. They have now both gotten jobs working in Intl. adoptions. Praise God! It means more children will go from institutions to parents. That is what we want. Only now our office's most bilingual person is...David! We need help in translations and interpreting. Please pray for a new helper in that important work.

Getting this window in was Natasha Semichkov's top
priority. We were saving money for the bridge over the creek
in front of their house which will soon be an non-fordable
torrent. But when we talked at a women's seminar in
Belagorsk, she convinced us that the old drafty window had
to go. The children's warmth and health depends on it. We
relented. A huge wind almost delayed the installation, as
the week we had planned on installing it this gale force
wind had knocked out power in the region for days. Praise
God all was up and running when we got there...including
the kids who had been out of school all week and were
crazy with cabin fever.
UNITY and a POWERFUL NEW MINISTRY
Before we lost Olga and Vera to more prosperous work we kept after them to finish translating an
important document into Russian. They did finish it before they went on. This is a helpful book for
people who work as teams in Healing Rooms. If you haven't heard about Healing Rooms look up IAHR
on the net and you will understand more. I visited a Healing Room in Texas and was greatly blessed. I
see this ministry as a great supplement, helping overworked church leaders minister to the health
needs of people for whom they just do not have enough time. Healing Rooms are staffed by people
from every denomination that believes in divine healing. It turns out that this cross confessional
teamwork is a bridge to unity as well as a proof of something Jesus prayed in John 17:20-23. Christian
unity brings evangelical results...according to the Lord! I was greatly blessed to attend a meeting of 8
churches of several persuasions last Saturday in Simferopol. Hallelujah! This is unheard of in Crimea!
We hope to see more churches participating at the next such gathering.

The multi-church gathering had powerful praise and
worship and eight sermons! Whew! The banner above

of Joy site is the place for a new healing Room. In fact the entire ROJ project is about healing children and families and villages with the restoration power of Jesus Christ. We hope to get the floor in this winter. There is lots more work to do on this building. This has been a "windows" year. We got windows and doors in this summer. Please help us pray in the funds to finish it. ~
