ROJ CAMP
JULY 25- AUG 3 2013
I honestly used to hate that verse! It was a favorite of some of the grandmothers in our little Open Bible Church
in Santa Barbara. The grannies are gone now and so is that little church  Anyway it doesn;t still exist by that
name. But sometime in the interim I began to believe that verse and grew to love it. This year though my faith
that all would work out well was severely tested,  Firstly, I had a short six months in Crimea and my long term
visa was nulled by the new regime in Kiev. Next I learned that my ususl stopping place in Lancaster was in
turmoil. Lastly, I got a severe spinal ailment shortly after getting to California. As it turned out I was a good nine
month niatus before I could get back in the saddle here in Kainaute,Crimea, Ukraine.

But River of Joy Orphan Village Project had a new first time camp!
70 ROYAL RANGER leaders from all over the former Soviet Union
held their leadership training camp at River of Joy this May 2013!
Royal Rangers is a Christian Scouting organization that some have suggested should take the place of Boy Scouts
for churches that are used to hosting a scouting program. I was a Royal Ranger leader when I was an Elder in that
little church in Santa Barbara. Royal Rangers were started by the Assemblies of God but they have spread to many
other church groups. Their standards for the boys and leaders are strictly Biblical.

O met the leaders of this group when I got back to River of Joy. They were setting up a bigger camp for some 700
boys from all over Eastern Europe. Someone else got to host that one, but they say they will be back.
ZEROING IN ON THE BIGGER TARGET
Adoption Center build gets under way
When you start with a Ukrainian farm house it is somewhat like the famous, "House that Jack Built."  In this plan the
enterior thicker walls are those that once were the whole house. As time went on the house was added to and the
newer shell block for walls was made smaller. Hay was used in the attic for insulation and electricity came much
later. To rebuild from scratch or to salvage and add onto this byulding that has been our main warehouse for
humanitarian aid storage was our dilemma,

The target purpose for the adoption center house is to provide a place where adopting parents can live with a
prospective child in a neutral environment long enough to learn who the child really is. Having seen some
catastrophic adoptions, where children were misrepresented by an orphanage and nearly destroyed the adopting
family made the need for such a place apparent. Here an adopting family can come for a long enough time to see
the child behind the mask. We have now replaced the roof and are remaking the rest of the house as
funds come in for it.

This former goat barn was completely rebuilt and
turned into a bath / wash / restroom with all modern
conveniences. It  was build with funds from Bryan
Livingston. We made it a kind of template for the other
houses on the River of Joy site. Local resources,
humanitarian aid and heavenly inspiration helped us
create something beautiful, compact and convenient.
